Efforts to open a 15-bed shelter in Waterford for homeless AIDS patients cleared some important legal hurdles with the state Tuesday.
Support Ministries for Persons with AIDS was granted two crucial construction variances for the project after a 45-minute hearing before the Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code Board of Review of the Department of State.
The five-member board turned down a third -- but less important -- variance request pertaining to the width of all doors in the building located at 31 Sixth St. in the village of Waterford.
